Blog: Stepping up to show the world #WhyWeCare about fostering

10 May 2021

Today marks the start of The Fostering Networks’, Foster Care Fortnight. The focus this year is in stepping up to show the world #WhyWeCare about fostering.

At Aberlour, we care deeply about providing high-quality care and support within a loving, homely environment where children and young people have a genuine sense of belonging and connection and in line with our strategy 2021-2025, we are committed to ‘Being Brave’ for children, young people and families.

Throughout the next couple of weeks, you will hear from a range of people, including children, foster carers and our Chief Executive amongst others, about why they care and in doing so, realising Scotland’s ambition for children and young people ‘to be the best place in the world to grow up’ so that children are ‘loved, safe, and respected and realise their full potential.’ (The Promise)

I am genuinely amazed every day and feel so proud to be part of Aberlour Fostering service. No more so than over the last year where our foster carers, despite their own fears and concerns, have risen to the challenge and continued to provide loving and stable homes in times of uncertainty. From home schooling to keeping children connected to family and friends and supporting positive mental health and wellbeing, our foster families have found creative ways and children have continued to thrive.

I would like to say to all of our amazing foster families and in whatever capacity you support fostering, thank you for Being Brave for children, young people and families.

Please take part in Foster Care Fortnight in whatever way you can:

  • Like, share/retweet & comment on our social media posts.
  • Engage friends, relatives and neighbours by sharing your fostering experiences with them.
  • Encourage others to speak to us about becoming a foster carer with Aberlour.

Visit our fostering page for more information on becoming a foster carer or give our fostering team a call on 01592 591500 or email fostering@aberlour.org.uk

Warmest wishes.
