Scotland’s Largest Children’s Charity Launches Big Cycle Event

22 Apr 2021

Today (22 April 2021) Aberlour Children’s Charity has launched the first Aberlour Big Cycle to raise vital funds for vulnerable children and their families across Scotland.

The Aberlour Big Cycle is a family friendly, community cycling event taking place on Sunday 29th August 2021 at Lochore Meadows Country Park, Lochgelly, Fife. The event is open to everyone – from beginners to experienced cyclists. Choose from three routes, 5km which is contained within Lochore Meadows Country Park or 20km and 45km which will allow you to enjoy the beautiful Fife countryside.

Aberlour is Scotland’s largest children’s charity and supports over 7,500 vulnerable children and their families across the country. Aberlour provides a range of services, including residential and fostering, recovery, early years, disability and early intervention, to help the young people and families they support to thrive.

Catherine Thomas, Head of Fundraising at Aberlour, said: “We are delighted to finally launch our inaugural Aberlour Big Cycle and we can’t wait for everyone to come together on Sunday 29th August at Lochore Meadows Country Park.

“At Aberlour we have seen the daily impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on families across the country. Families who once didn’t need help from charities like us, now do due to furlough and redundancies.

“This event not only gives our supporters a chance to get out in the fresh air with their families, friends or colleagues but allows them to raise vital funds to support families, like their own, in need across Scotland.”

Robert, young person supported by Aberlour, said: “I have signed up to take part in the Aberlour Big Cycle and I can’t wait to get on my bike. I hope lots of people will join me on the day to have fun and raise lots of money to help young people like me across Scotland.”

Registration is free for the 5K route. While registration for the 20k and 45k routes cost £10 for under 16s and £15 for aged 16 and over.
