Scotland’s Children’s Charity offer free places to Kiltwalkers

11 Apr 2019

With just over two weeks to go until the first Kiltwalk of the year, Scotland’s largest children’s charity is offering free entry to the event for those pledging to walk for them.

Aberlour, a charity working across Scotland, provides lifeline care for vulnerable children, young people and their families. Walkers who walk the Kiltwalk in aid of Aberlour and pledge to raise at least £150 in sponsor money will benefit from free entry.

The Kiltwalk has become one of Scotland’s most popular mass-participation events with over 20,000 walkers taking part in 2018. The first Kiltwalk will take place in Glasgow on April 28th followed by walks in Dundee, Aberdeen and Edinburgh later in the year.

Walkers can choose from a range of walking routes of between six and twenty-six miles in length. And with organisers promising incredible scenery, complementary snacks and drinks along the way plus entertainment and family activities to enjoy at the finish, it’s a great way to have fun, complete a challenge and raise money that will make a big difference for vulnerable children.

And for every £1 raised, the Hunter Foundation will add 40% extra for free.

Aberlour’s Catherine Thomas, Head of Fundraising, said:

“Every day in Scotland, 7,500 children affected by poverty, domestic abuse, mental ill health and disability are being cared for by Aberlour. But that’s only made possible thanks to our funders, supporters and amazing people who fundraise for us by taking part in events like the Kiltwalk. Each day we’re privileged to able to provide such a wide range of care. By walking the Kiltwalk for Aberlour this year, you’ll help us reach more children in need of urgent care”.

Among the thousands to take part in this year’s Glasgow Kiltwalk will staff from Aberlour’s Glasgow Family Support Service and from Aberlour’s new Attain mentoring service for care-experienced children and young people in Renfrewshire.

Michelle King, manager of Aberlour Glasgow Family Support Service said:

“I see first-hand the need for Aberlour every day. We work with some of Glasgow’s most vulnerable and at-risk young people through our street outreach work, youth clubs and domestic abuse services. My team and I are really looking forward to taking part in the Kiltwalk and raising lots of money to help many more young people in Glasgow who need our help”.

Sarah-Louise Davies, manager of Aberlour Attain – Renfrewshire said:

“I have always wanted to take part in the Kiltwalk as it seemed like such a fantastic way to raise money. Being a new member of the Aberlour Attain team has given me the opportunity to take part in the Kiltwalk alongside my colleagues. This will help to support the amazing work that Aberlour provides across Scotland, to ensure that every child and young person gets the chance to grow and flourish. I am so excited to get my walking shoes on and join the fun”.

To claim your free entry to this year’s Kiltwalk events call Aberlour on freephone 0800 085 6150 or email fundraising@aberlour.org.uk.

As you cross the finish line, you’ll receive a meal voucher to refuel plus entertainment and family activities to enjoy.
