Introducing Children’s Rights
What is the UNCRC?
As a human being, you have rights that apply to everyone in the world. These can be found in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and are held by all people, no matter how old they happen to be.
Children and young people have other rights too. These are listed in a document called the UN Convention on The Rights of the Child, or UNCRC.
The UNCRC is the most complete statement of children’s rights ever produced and is the most widely-ratified international human rights treaty in history.
The Vision
The vision of the Scottish Government is for Scotland to be the best place in the world for a child to grow up, with opportunities for all in Scotland to flourish. We believe, as does the Government, that an integral element to allow us as a nation to achieve this is through the recognition of, respect for and promotion of children’s human rights.
At Aberlour, we believe it is extremely important for everyone to respect children’s rights and put the rights of the child at the heart of everything we do.
We wish for everyone, especially our supporters, to have an understanding of children’s rights, rights frameworks (e.g. UNCRC) and rights-based legislation (e.g. the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014).

We ask all our children’s service colleagues to complete this training to ensure they are aware of our young people’s rights and that these are upheld.
