Foster Care Fortnight #ChangeAFuture

13 May 2019

At Aberlour, we believe that all children and young people deserve a loving and stable home. A home that supports them to grow and flourish.

Today, The Fostering Network have launched their annual Foster Care Fortnight campaign. The campaign showcases the commitment, passion and dedication of foster carers throughout the UK. And highlights the need for more foster carers for older children, sibling groups, disabled children and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children.

This year’s theme is #ChangeAFuture and focuses on how becoming a foster carer not only changes the future of the fostered children and young people but the futures of the foster families who care for them.

The children and young people we support are unable to live with their families for a number of reasons such as abuse, neglect, parents have addiction issues. Often our children have suffered traumatic experiences at a young age, and this affects the way they feel inside.

We are proud to work with families across Scotland who can provide a safe, loving, nurturing home to give a child the best start in life.

We provide extensive training and support to all our foster carers including regular access to experienced social workers, family workers, therapists, teachers and health advisors. To ensure that not only the foster child is getting the best support they need, but the whole foster family.

It’s not always an easy task to look after child who has experienced trauma, but we are there to support our families every step of the way, no matter the day or time. We urgently need more foster families. Scotland is reaching crisis point, with 580 more fostering families urgently needed.

Throughout Foster Care Fortnight we will be sharing the stories of young people who have been fostered through Aberlour and stories from our foster carers themselves. We will also look to debunk many fostering myths that are out there.

Could you be the foster carer we are looking for? Can you open your home and heart to a child who needs love and stability to grow?
