Aberlour shortlisted for Charity Awards

7 May 2021

We are delighted to announce that we have made the shortlist for this year’s Charity Awards, the longest-running and most prestigious awards scheme in the charity sector.

Aberlour has been shortlisted in the Children and Youth Award for our Sustain Intensive Family Support service, which aims to keep children living at home with their families rather than being taken into care.

The Charity Awards, which announces its shortlist today (7 May), is the sector’s most highly-regarded excellence recognition scheme. All 27 shortlisted charities this year have been judged by an independent panel of sector leaders as having demonstrated best practice in leadership and management, from which other organisations can learn.

We identified that too many children are unnecessarily taken into care and this can often be prevented if struggling families receive the right support at the right time. Aberlour piloted the new intensive ‘edge-of-care’ service ‘Sustain’ that removes the inevitability of many children entering care. Sustain does things differently, offering support in families’ homes when they need it, mornings, evenings and public holidays. As a result of the success of the pilot the service is being rolled out to a number of Local Authority areas across Scotland.

The ten category winners, plus the recipients of the Overall Award for Excellence and the Daniel Phelan Award for Outstanding Achievement, will be announced at a live-streamed online awards ceremony on 10 June.
