Aberlour Children’s Charity Confirms Membership of the Financial Redress Scheme

8 Dec 2021

Aberlour can confirm that the organisation is a member of the Financial Redress scheme. We offer an unreserved apology to anyone who was abused whilst in the care of Aberlour. Aberlour see membership of the scheme as an important step in addressing the failings of our past.

SallyAnn Kelly, Chief Executive said:

“We would like to thank those survivors who have already taken the difficult step of sharing their experiences. We encourage anyone who was abused in our care to come forward if they possibly can and share their experiences. Aberlour is committed to learning from the failings of our past and we know that those we cared for are best placed to help us in that endeavour. We will work closely with Scottish Government and Redress Scotland and continue to offer support and advice to anyone who comes forward. We are very clear that this is the right thing to do and we hope that our involvement in the scheme sends a powerful message to those who have already bravely shared their experiences and to those survivors who want to share their story but, as yet, have not found the safe space in which to do this. We hope that this will provide them with an option that they feel, to date, has been unavailable to them.”

Aberlour is committed to contributing up to £1.6 million to the scheme to help people abused in our care and this money will come from the Charity’s reserves. Should anyone want to seek information about their time with Aberlour please contact us at enquiries@aberlour.org.uk and we will provide assistance in any way we can.
