Aberlour Child Care Trust offers free places to Aberdeen Kiltwalkers

17 May 2019

With less than a month to go until Aberdeen’s Kiltwalk, Scotland’s largest children’s charity is offering free entry to the event for those pledging to walk for them.

Aberlour, a charity working in Aberdeen and across Scotland, provides lifeline care for vulnerable children, young people and their families. Walkers who sign up for the Kiltwalk in aid of Aberlour and pledge to raise at least £150 in sponsor money will benefit from free entry.

The Kiltwalk has become one of Scotland’s most popular mass-participation events with over 20,000 walkers taking part in 2018. After kicking off in Glasgow last month, the Aberdeen event is taking place on 2nd June followed by walks in Dundee and Edinburgh later in the year.

Walkers can choose from a range of routes of between six and twenty-six miles in length. And with organisers promising incredible scenery, complimentary snacks and drinks along the way plus entertainment and family activities to enjoy at the finish, it’s a great way to have fun, complete a challenge and raise money that will make a big difference for vulnerable children.

Aberlour runs several services across the north-east, including its Aberdeen Family Service, which works with parents who have extra challenges such as learning difficulties, substance use or domestic abuse. Service Manager Louise Forbes said: “Kiltwalk is a fantastic event for the city of Aberdeen and we are always so grateful for donations, large or small. Our service works with families with children up to the age of 12 who want or need support in developing their parenting skills. Since we launched in 1988, we’ve supported over 1,000 families living across the city, enabling both parents and children to flourish.”

Another service the charity runs in the city is Options Aberdeen, which provides short breaks for children and young people with disabilities. Service Manager Sarah Calder commented: “Taking care of a child with a disability can be hugely demanding and for families with more than one child, it can mean having less time to focus on their other children. At Options Aberdeen, we try to make life easier by providing short overnight breaks as well as outreach and community-based activities that help young people develop their independence, while also giving parents and carers a break from their role. By taking part in this year’s Kiltwalk on behalf of Aberlour, you will be helping us to maintain this vital service and I know that the families we help will be forever grateful.”
